We are excited to announce that Sources of Strength students in Arriba-Flagler are working on a surprise! Thanks to a grant we received last school year from Rise Above Colorado and Colorado Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), we are finally painting the mural for our outdoor learning environment. Sources students helped design the mural and will be helping Jonathan Judge and Some Girls and A Mural, the artists commissioned to paint it this weekend. They will reveal it to the rest of the students on Monday at 3:30pm. We welcome any who wish to attend! Sources of Strength is an evidence-based program designed to harness the power of peer social networks to change unhealthy norms and culture, ultimately preventing suicide, bullying, and substance abuse. The model strengthens multiple sources of support (protective factors--e.g., family support, spirituality, generosity, physical health, mentors) around young individuals so that when times get hard they have strengths to rely on. The district has received a grant from the Colorado Attorney General's office to provide training for these students for the last three years. We're excited to see what these students will continue to accomplish!
